Fly North and drive West
back to Reykjavik

Here’s a great way to get more Iceland out of your time there. Fly halfway, so you can saunter vehicularly back to your starting point! Akureyri is 389 km from Reykjavik, and the drive can take 5 hours (or 5 days!) a flight between Reykjavik and Akureyri, where you pick up (or drop off) your car, which gives you more time for enjoying the landscape with all it’s potential fun as you head back to your starting point - you don’t drive both coming and going. Drivingg West you go via the horse country of Skagafjordur, fishing villages, and saga sights.

This tour can be reversed - that is you can fly north and drive back, or drive north and fly south!
