Around Iceland in 8 days

Around Iceland in 8 days / 7 nights 2010

This is an ideal drive if you can’t squeeze out more time away from home. You start with a day and night in Reykjavik, to rest up from the flight, then head to the beautiful north, where there’s interesting history, deep fjords and fields full of horses. If planned rihgt, you could take a riding tour, or a rafting trip near your hotel. Then further east to take a bit of Akureyri, second largest city, with a bit of urban culture, and then on to the Myvatn area with it’s geothermal activity and zillions fo birds. The landscape changes as you head to Egilstadir, in the east, as the twisty sea coast is a beautiful but slow drive. The next days are in sight of Europe's largest glacier, Vatnajokull, as you head along the south coast with it’s waterfalls, glaciers, black sand beaches and well known sites. A last night in Reykjavik before heading home!
